How Dot Transportation Is Keeping up with the Competition

You heard from DTI President Paul Mugerditchain back in July 2018 as he discussed what makes Dot Transportation special.

So today, Mugerditchain is back to discuss truck driver salary at Dot Transportation and how DTI ensures our drivers are taken care of.

By Paul Mugerditchain, President, Dot Transportation, Inc.

Driver pay is something that is continuously evolving and top-of-mind in the trucking industry. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median pay for truck drivers in 2017 was $42,480, but truck driver salaries have been seen to vary depending on location, type of haul, and experience levels.

Drivers who are paid per mile usually make more than hourly or salaried drivers—especially when companies, like Dot Transportation, pay their drivers for their miles and for their activity while on the job.

According to AllTrucking.com, one of the positive aspects of being paid per mile is that it tends to average out to a decent hourly wage.

“Many companies offer incentives and bonuses for top milage producers. A little competition in the workplace can aid in drivers working harder. It is a win-win situation for both the company and the driver.”

What Makes Dot Transportation Stand Out?

At Dot, we care about our employees and their families, and we value their time. Because of this, we pay our drivers not only for each mile they drive but also for a lot of the activity they have to conduct while on the road.

Our average drivers will earn about $86,000 annually. We are proud of our overall compensation package.

In 2018 and 2019 combined, we have raised mileage pay by 7 cents per mile, and we have significantly raised compensation to drivers that work on the customer’s dock.

We also have unbeatable truck driving benefits that are meant to help our drivers with their health and wellbeing and their future.

Our benefits package is worth more than $22,000 per employee. Aside from our usual compensation, our employees benefit from Dot’s fantastic medical and dental plan, 401(k) contributions of up to seven percent, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, service level and company profit level-based bonuses, and so much more.
