The short answer to that question is “none.”
At Dot Transportation, Inc. (DTI), we understand that some of the best drivers may not be professional truck drivers yet. You may still be in school to get your commercial driver’s license (CDL) or still weighing the pros and cons of being a professional driver.
Here’s what you need to know about driving experience at DTI:
1. You don’t need any experience to drive for Dot
While we do offer a few extra perks for experienced drivers with over 200K miles under their belts, you don’t have to worry about having that kind of experience to drive with DTI.
Whether you are fresh out of truck driving school, have only been driving for a few years, or have been driving for decades—we welcome all types of drivers at Dot.
2. Here’s what you do need:
- Class A CDL
- Safety-first attitude
- Customer-first mindset
- Good driving record
3. What about having my Haz-Mat and tanker endorsements?
Great question! While you do have to have your Haz-Mat and tanker endorsements before driving solo, you can be hired without them and get them while you’re training with us.
4. Dot has of the best driver training & orientation programs in the industry
If you just completed driving school or are an inexperienced driver with less than 200K miles of driving experience, we’ll make sure you are as ready as possible for a solo life on the road. Dot driver training takes three to 10 weeks to complete, depending on your experience. Our driver trainers work with you one-on-one until you are ready to hit the road as a safe and professional Dot driver.
5. If you want to get to know Dot’s business before becoming a professional truck driver, try our Warehouse to Driver Program
At Dot, we offer a Warehouse to Driver Program for people who are interested in becoming a driver but would like to start in the Dot warehouse first.
Here’s how it works: You work in a Dot distribution center (DC) full-time for six months. Then, you start attending a Dot-approved truck driving school while continuing to work in the warehouse part-time. Once you’ve completed driving school (on Dot’s dime) you will transition to training and orientation with the DTI team! You can find more details about the Warehouse to Driver Program here.
