Truck driving can be an exceptionally fun and rewarding career. However, the time away from loved ones can become tiring.

How Truck Drivers Can Stay Connected

Whether you’re celebrating Father’s Day at home or on the road, we have compiled five tips for staying connected with your family when you are away.

Get Social

Social media is a great way to broadcast updates on where you are, what you are doing, and to stay connected to a lot of people at once. Many social media apps like Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat also offer text and video chat options.

Find Free Wi-Fi

One of the trickiest things about staying connected on the road can be the lack of internet. Use an app like OpenSignal to find fast Wi-Fi wherever you are. Wi-Fi will save your data plan and often provide a better connection for video calls.

Make it Face-to-Face

FaceTime, Skype, Google Hangouts and other online tools allow for a face-to-face conversation away from home. It may not feel the same as getting together in-person,

Schedule It

Set a regular time that you will connect with your family and stick to it. Just like your truck needs maintenance, relationships need regular tune-ups, too.

Send a Postcard

Paper mail is less and less common, so a personal handwritten note from afar is especially meaningful.

A Change in Driving Schedule

Are you spending too much time away from loved ones? Are you ready for a different type of truck driving schedule? Dot Transportation offers four flexible job types (with numerous schedules) that are sure to meet your needs and lifestyle.

You may choose to be out for 2-3 days at a time or do 4 days on/4 days off schedule as a Class A CDL – regional company delivery driver. Or maybe our 4×3 Flip job type — where you work 4 days on, 3 days off one week and then 3 days on, 4 days off the next — sounds like it’s right up your alley.

Whatever your preferred truck driving schedule, Dot has a job (and home time) that meets your needs.
